Ready for the Weekend (song)
“Ready for the Weekend” is a 2009 song by Scottish musician Calvin Harris. It is the second single from his album also titled Ready for the Weekend. The track runs 3 minutes and 37 seconds. Calvin Harris wrote and produced it, with Mary Pearce providing uncredited vocals.
The song premiered on 12 June 2009 on BBC Radio 1 and was named Song of the Day on Popjustice on 13 July. Harris performed it at the iTunes Festival in London on 18 July. Remixes were made by High Contrast, Fake Blood, and Dave Spoon.
In charts, the song reached number one on the UK Dance Singles Chart and number three on the UK Singles Chart. It was the 98th best-selling UK single of 2009. It also hit the top three in Scotland and entered the top ten in Belgium, Ireland, and the Netherlands. In the United States, it peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart. The track was certified Silver by the BPI in the UK and Gold by ARIA in Australia.
The music video, directed by Ben Ib, premiered on T4 on 4 July 2009 and featured Lauren Pope and Funda Önal among dancers in red, blue, and yellow outfits. On 23 July 2009, the video was removed from YouTube after a copyright claim, which Harris said upset him and he believed came from the British Phonographic Industry. The video was re-uploaded on 14 December 2010 on Harris’s official channel.
