Privates (video game)
Privates is a free Windows twin-stick shooter by Size Five Games (formerly Zombie Cow Studios), funded by Channel 4 as a sex-education tool. It released on 6 August 2010. In the game you control a squad of tiny Marines with condom hats who fight sexually transmitted infections inside the human body. Enemies are defeated with anti-bacterial and anti-viral guns. You can command up to three extra Marines to attack different targets while others cover them. The main character is Jack, leader of Foxtrot Squad, a group sent on a dangerous mission to prove themselves.
Channel 4 funded the game to promote safe sex among teenage boys. The designer compared its gameplay to Gunstar Heroes and described the development as exploring sensitive topics, highlighting how easily STIs can spread. Microsoft rejected an Xbox 360 release due to the content, a decision critics harshly criticized. The game received praise for its direct approach to sexual health, though some critics called it misogynistic. A defender argued the game aims to educate about sex in a humorous way and acknowledged that such works will always attract criticism.
