David Green was a key adviser to Illinois Governor Dan Walker, as well as a successful businessman and philanthropist. He grew up on Chicago’s West and South Sides and attended Hyde Park High School. He studied at the University of Chicago and later earned a master’s degree in social science there after serving in the Army Signal Corps in the South Pacific during World War II. A longtime Hyde Park resident, Green became active in 5th Ward politics and the Democratic Federation of Illinois. He helped with John F. Kennedy’s 1960 campaign and served as a special adviser to Kennedy on the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. Green died on March 26, 2007.
