Prionoglarididae
Prionoglarididae
Prionoglarididae is a small family of barklice in the insect order Psocodea (formerly Psocoptera). Adults have a simplified lacinia (part of the mouthparts) and distinctive male genitalia.
The family includes about 9 genera and more than 20 described species. The best‑known genus is Neotrogla, which has an unusual trait: females have a penis‑like organ and can take on male‑typical mating roles.
They are found in Europe, Afghanistan, Namibia, and the United States.
In the United States, the genus Speleketor is the only one recorded, with three species: Speleketor flocki, Speleketor irwini, and Speleketor pictus.
