Prairie sphinx moth
Prairie sphinx moth (Euproserpinus wiesti), also known as Wiest's primrose sphinx, is a critically endangered moth in the Sphingidae family. It lives in the western United States, in sandy habitats like sand washes and prairie blow-outs. The moth has a wingspan of 32–49 mm. There is one generation each year; adults are on the wing from May to June and feed on nectar from flowers during the day. Larvae feed on Oenothera latifolia (large-flowered evening primrose). Scientific name: Euproserpinus wiesti Sperry, 1939.
