Portrait of Countess Albazzi
Portrait of Countess Albazzi is a painting by Édouard Manet, created in 1880. It is a pastel portrait on a very fine canvas stretched over a wooden frame, with off-white priming. The pastel is fragile, and there are a few tiny losses on the surface. This was one of Manet’s last works. The painting became part of the Thannhauser Collection at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum as a bequest from Hilde Thannhauser. It has been shown in European exhibitions in Paris, Bern, and Martigny. In 1880, Manet was showing his work at the Paris Salon each year and was preparing for a solo exhibition arranged by Georges Charpentier.
