Politics of Taiyuan
Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi, uses China’s dual party-government system. The Communist Party Secretary of Taiyuan is the most powerful official, while the Mayor leads the municipal government but has less power. The Taiyuan Municipal People’s Congress is the city’s legislature, and the Taiyuan Municipal People’s Government runs daily affairs and implements Congress decisions. In 2014, two officials were investigated by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI): Shen Weichen on April 12 and Chen Chuanping on August 23, for serious violations of laws and regulations.
