Plymouth Admirals
Plymouth Admirals were an American football team from Plymouth, England. Formed in October 1984 by Adrian Patrick, they played home games at the Parkway Social Club in Ernesettle. They were one of the UK’s oldest teams and spent many years in the sport’s top levels, making the playoffs eight times and winning the UK Premier Bowl in 1991 after a perfect 10–0 conference season.
Over the years the Admirals moved between different leagues as the game evolved, including the Budweiser League, the British National Gridiron League (BNGL), and later the British American Football Association (BAFA) and BAFL. They also had several home ground changes, playing at venues such as the Plymouth Sports Centre, the College of St Mark and St John, Stonehouse Creek, Oak Villa, and finally Parkway.
Their peak came in the early 1990s with the Premier Bowl win and a strong run in BNGL’s National Division. In the years that followed, they faced ups and downs, with playoff appearances becoming less frequent. The team competed in BAFL until 2010.
