Plaissan
Plaissan is a small rural commune in southern France, in the Hérault department of the Occitanie region. It covers about 15.8 square kilometers and sits between 35 and 165 meters above sea level, with an average around 65 meters. The population was 1,718 in 2023.
Geography and nature
Plaissan lies between the sea and the Cévennes, surrounded by vineyards and scrubland. The Dardaillon and Rouvièges streams flow through the area. The municipality is known for its natural heritage, including areas of ecological, fauna, and flora interest.
Location
Montpellier is about 35 km to the east, Béziers about 40 km to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea roughly 30 km to the south.
Climate
Plaissan has a Mediterranean climate with hot, sunny summers and mild winters. It enjoys many sunny days (around 2,600 hours per year) and fairly dry conditions. The average annual temperature is around 15°C, with summer averages around 21–22°C. Annual rainfall is about 650–720 mm, and strong winds are common.

The mayor for 2020–2026 is Béatrice Fernando. Plaissan belongs to the intercommunality Vallée de l'Hérault, in the Lodève arrondissement and the Gignac canton. The INSEE code is 34204 and the postal code is 34230. Residents are called Plaissanais (male) and Plaissanaises (female).
Natural areas
The area includes the ZNIEFF site "Causse of Aumelas and Moure Mountain," an ecological area spanning several municipalities to protect important natural habitats.
