Paul Beauchamp

Paul Beauchamp (1924–2001) was a French Jesuit priest, theologian and Bible scholar who specialized in Sacred Scripture and biblical theology. Born in Tours, he joined the Society of Jesus in 1941 in Laval. From 1948 to 1951 he lived in China, an experience that influenced his work. He was ordained a priest in 1954, then studied at the Institut Biblique in Jerusalem and later in Rome. He earned a doctorate in biblical exegesis. Beauchamp taught at the Jesuit Faculty of Theology at Fourvière in Lyon and at the Centre Sèvres in Paris, shaping many students. He died on 23 April 2001.
