Patrick Juzeau
Patrick Juzeau (1950–2004) was a French classical violinist and conductor from Bordeaux. He started music early and studied at the Conservatoire de Toulouse, winning first prizes in violin and chamber music in 1970. He played violin at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse for three years, earned the Certificate of Aptitude to teach violin in 1972, and was then appointed to the Pau Conservatory. Juzeau studied conducting with Jean-Sébastien Bereau, Pierre Dervaux, Jésus Etcheverry and Roberto Benzi, and won the Emile Vuillermoz prize at the Besançon Festival in 1976. He became Roberto Benzi’s assistant at the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, then was named permanent head of the Orchestre national des Pays de la Loire. He later served as musical director of the Orchestre National de France, Bordeaux Aquitaine, the Capitole de Toulouse, and Provence Côte d'Azur. In 1983 he joined the Conservatoire national supérieur musique et danse de Lyon as a teacher. He conducted in Spain, was the assistant director of the San Sebastian conducting course, and later became the musical advisor of the Euskadi National Orchestra. He recorded the complete French version of Britten’s The Little Sweep for the Lucien Adès and Le Petit Ménestrel labels. Juzeau died in Bordeaux in 2004.
