Pacific coast
Pacific coast means any coastline that borders the Pacific Ocean. In North America, most western countries have the Pacific coast on their western or southwest edge. Panama is unusual: its Pacific coast is mainly on its southern border. Europeans first reached the Pacific by crossing the Isthmus of Panama, and the ocean was once called the South Sea. In South America, only four countries have any part of their borders on the Pacific. In Asia, countries on the eastern, northeastern, and southeastern sides have Pacific coastlines as part of their borders. Australia’s Pacific coast lies on its eastern border. In Oceania, most countries and territories are bordered entirely by the Pacific Ocean, except for the Ashmore and Cartier Islands and the Australian Indian Ocean Territories.
