Oder (Harz)
The Oder (Harz) is a 56-kilometre-long river in Lower Saxony, Germany. It rises in the Harz Mountains near Sankt Andreasberg, in the area called the Odersprung, at about 810 metres above sea level. The river flows southwest through Bad Lauterberg, Pöhlde and Hattorf am Harz. It is dammed twice along its course, at the Oderteich and near the Oder Dam. After leaving the Harz, the Oder turns west, passes north of the Rotenberg ridge, and reaches Wulften. In Hattorf it is joined by the Sieber from the northeast, and it then empties into the Rhume at Katlenburg-Lindau. The Rhume flows on to the Leine, the Aller, the Weser and finally the North Sea. The Oder has two main tributaries on the right — the Sperrlutter, Lutter and Sieber — and one on the left, the Pöhlder Beber. Along its course the river passes through the Oderaue nature reserve between Scharzfeld and Katlenburg. Two reservoirs along the Oder are the Oderteich and the Oder Reservoir.
