Oakman-Hertel was a short‑lived American car company based in Greenfield, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1899 by Max Hertel, an engineer who had previously built a car that was shipped to Australia for John Pender; the Pender‑Hertel is believed to be the first car imported into Australia. In 1899 Hertel started the Oakman Motor Vehicle Company. The company built a small two‑seat runabout with two cylinders and tiller steering, weighing about 214 kg and priced at $750. The engine was listed as 581 cc and 2.5 horsepower, with a claimed range of about 120 km. Some sources also list a larger displacement of 1,607 cc. Due to weak sales, the factory was closed by creditors in November 1900.
