Oak Grove School (Prairieville, Alabama)
Oak Grove School is a small, historic two-room Rosenwald School built in 1925 near Prairieville in Hale County, Alabama. It served as a black elementary school until the 1960s, when students moved to the nearby Sunshine School. The building was designed by architect Samuel L. Smith using Rosenwald Fund guidelines from 1924, and it is a one-story wooden structure on brick piers with a T-shaped floor plan. The community raised $1,400 for the school, Alabama contributed $900, and the Rosenwald Fund gave $700. The school stood beside the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church and was later used by the church for activities, sometimes as a Sunday school space. In 1998, Oak Grove School was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Rosenwald School Building Fund program. A historical marker was placed in 2001 by the Oak Grove School Heritage Committee and the Cahaba Trace Commission. The building is maintained by the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
