Nirvana is a 2008 Russian drama directed by Igor Voloshin. It stars Olga Sutulova, Mariya Shalayeva, Artur Smolyaninov, Mikhail Evlanov, and Tatiana Samoylova. The movie is in Russian, produced by CTB Film Company, runs 93 minutes, and was released on February 12, 2008. It is set in Saint Petersburg in the early 2000s and follows a young woman’s difficult search for a better life.

Plot
Alisa moves to Saint Petersburg hoping for a brighter future. She finds work as a nurse and shares a dark apartment with Vel, a bartender who uses drugs, and Valera, nicknamed “Myortvyy” (Dead). Vel is distrustful of people, while Valera tries to help. An affair develops between Valera and Alisa, which causes conflict with Vel. When Valera is kidnapped by criminals who want repayment for a debt, Vel sends his severed finger to demand payment. Alisa helps Vel raise the money, and the two become deeper in debt. After Valera is freed, he steals money and tries to disappear again. Vel dies from a drug overdose and appears to Alisa as a hallucination, urging her to quit drugs and leave Saint Petersburg. Alisa decides to leave for Moscow, and the film ends with her walking away.
