Nguyễn Phương Lan
Nguyễn Phương Lan (born 1971 in Hanoi) is a retired Vietnamese wushu taolu athlete and later coach. One of Vietnam’s early famous wushu athletes, she started as a swimmer and trained in shaolinquan for a year in 1991. In 1992 she joined Vietnam’s first wushu class while working as a factory worker and being married.
Her international career began at the 1993 Southeast Asian Games, where she won bronze in jianshu. She went on to win multiple medals at world and regional championships:
- 1995 World Wushu Championships: silver in jianshu and bronze in daoshu
- 1997 Southeast Asian Games: gold in nanquan and silver in qiangshu
- 1997 World Wushu Championships: silver in jianshu and bronze in nanquan and qiangshu
- 1999 World Wushu Championships: first world champion in nangun; silver in nandao and bronze in nanquan
- 2000 Asian Wushu Championships: golds in nandao and nangun; silver in nanquan; all-around champion in nanquan
- 2001 Southeast Asian Games: gold in nandao and nangun; bronze in nanquan
- 2001 World Wushu Championships: silver in nanquan and nangun; bronze in nandao
After competing, she became a coach: head coach of the Vietnam National Youth Wushu Team in 2003, and later the national team coach in 2007.
