Mike Pettine
Mike Pettine Jr. (born September 25, 1966) is a former NFL coach from Doylestown, Pennsylvania. He played quarterback and defensive back in high school at Central Bucks West, earning all-state honors. He played free safety at the University of Virginia and earned a degree in economics in 1988.
Pettine began coaching in Pennsylvania high schools and worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Pittsburgh (1993–1994). He also coached with his father, longtime coach Mike Pettine Sr., at Central Bucks West. His NFL career started with the Baltimore Ravens, where he held several roles from 2002 to 2008, including coaching outside linebackers.
He then coached outside linebackers for the New York Jets (2009–2012). He was the Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator in 2013. Pettine served as the Cleveland Browns head coach from 2014 to 2015, finishing with a 10–22 record.
In 2017 he worked as a consultant for the Seattle Seahawks. He was hired as the Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator in 2018 and stayed through 2020. He joined the Chicago Bears as a senior defensive assistant in 2021. Pettine then joined the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 as a senior defensive assistant, later adding assistant head coach duties for outside linebackers in 2024. He retired after the 2025 season.
