Mezhgorye is a closed town in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia. It sits in the southern Ural Mountains near Mount Yamantau, about 200 kilometers southeast of Ufa, on the Maly Inser River. The town was founded around 1979 and was once known as Ufa-105 or Beloretsk-16 during construction. It became an official town in 1995 and took the name Mezhgorye. It is the only closed town in Russia located in a republic. Administratively, Mezhgorye is a closed administrative-territorial formation with the same status as a district and is directly under the federal government; municipally, it forms Mezhgorye Urban Okrug. The population was about 17,350 in 2010 and around 15,700 in 2021, showing a small decline. The town has two microdistricts, Tatly and Solnechny, located about 23 kilometers apart.
