Mexicans in the United Kingdom

Mexicans in the United Kingdom, or Mexican Britons, include people born in Mexico who live in the UK and their British-born children. Many come as international students, but many stay permanently and work, creating a growing second generation.

Population and where they live
- 9,771 Mexican-born residents in the UK (2011 census).
- England: 8,869; Scotland: 620; Wales: 196; Northern Ireland: 86.
- London has the largest and most diverse Mexican community. Other significant student communities are in Sheffield, Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick, Manchester, and Liverpool.

Who they are and what they do
- About 47% male and 53% female.
- Around 40% are students; about 13% are working; spouses and children make up about 9%.

Culture and community
- Many Mexican associations and clubs exist. Examples include MexSoc UK (organizes events with many UK universities), Exatec UK (alumni group for Monterrey Tech), the British Mexican Society (founded 1942), and Mexico Amigo (founded 1990).

Language and religion
- Languages: British English, Mexican Spanish, and Spanglish.
- Religion: Mainly Roman Catholic, with some Protestants and atheists.

Notes
- There have been cases of British nationals employing Mexican domestic workers without valid work permits.
