Mataró Museum
Mataró Museum is in Mataró, in El Maresme, and is based at Can Serra, a Renaissance building from 1565. It’s part of the Barcelona Provincial Council Local Museum Network and also runs several local heritage centers.
Can Serra is a two‑story building with a notable doorway and windows, and its original interior, including wood panelling, has been kept.
The museum’s collections are diverse: archaeological items from prehistoric, Iberian, Roman, Medieval and modern times; natural specimens; historical objects; and an art collection with religious altarpieces and carvings, as well as Baroque, Art Nouveau and Noucentista paintings. It also features engravings by Goya.
Nearby sites include:
- Torre Llauder Archaeological Site, where the remains of a Roman village quarter with mosaics are preserved. It dates to the end of the 1st century BC, during Augustus, and was part of the Iluro area.
- Ca l'Arenas Art Centre, created from artist Jordi Arenas i Clavell’s gift to the city, focusing on local art.
- Can Marfà Knitwear Museum, which is about the knitting and hosiery industry.
