Marquard & Bahls
Marquard & Bahls is a Hamburg-based holding company active in energy, trading and chemicals. Its core activities are tank storage logistics (via Oiltanking) and energy commodities trading (MB Energy). It also operates fuel retail and biofuels (Mabanaft), and previously ran aviation fueling (Skytanking). The group operates in more than 30 countries and reported about €15 billion in revenue in 2023, with around 2,800 employees. Theodor Weisser founded the business in 1947 by taking over Marquard & Bahls, a firm that had traded cereals and lubricants; it soon expanded into heating oil, lubricants and international trading. The company became a stock corporation in 1992 and now functions as a holding company with multiple subsidiaries. Over the years it built brands such as Oil! for service stations and Petronord for heating oil sales, and it expanded into renewables, including a wood-fired power plant and biogas projects. It invested in Nordic Blue Crude (2019) and Brusa ICS (2021/22). In 2022, Advario was created as a tank-terminal subsidiary. In late 2023 MB Energy sold its Oil! service stations to Prax Group. Christoph Witte has been CEO since July 2022. The group is not listed on the stock market and is headquartered in Hamburg.
