Eldor Shomurodov
Eldor Shomurodov is an Uzbek footballer who plays as a forward for İstanbul Başakşehir on loan from Roma and serves as the captain of the Uzbekistan national team. Born on 29 June 1995 in Jarqoʻrgʻon, he started his career with Mash'al Mubarek, later played for Bunyodkor, and then moved to Rostov in Russia, Genoa in Italy, and Roma. He has had loan spells with Spezia, Cagliari, and İstanbul Başakşehir in 2025.
Shomurodov is Uzbekistan’s all-time top scorer with 43 goals. He played in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup and helped Uzbekistan reach its first-ever FIFA World Cup in 2022 as captain. He became the first Uzbek to win a major UEFA competition when Roma won the 2022 Europa Conference League, and he scored the oldest Uzbek goal in the Europa League final stages in 2022. In 2024, he scored Uzbekistan’s first-ever Olympic goal in a match against Spain. Known for his strength, pace, and ability to both score and assist, he is nicknamed “the Uzbek Messi.” He stands 1.90 meters tall and mainly plays as a striker.
