Margo the Mouse is a Polish animated film from 1987. It’s a compilation movie made from eight episodes of the original TV series Margo the Mouse. The film was created and directed by Eugeniusz Kotowski and produced by Studio Filmów Rysunkowych and Film Polski. It has no spoken dialogue.

Plot
The movie follows Margo, a brave little mouse who lives in a tree in the countryside with animal neighbors. Her friends include Eliana the squirrel and Dennis the dormouse. In eight episodic adventures, Margo faces challenges like a giant fish, an evil stork, and a mischievous cat. She and her friends use clever thinking to solve problems, protect their home, and learn important life lessons. Some stories show Margo helping Eliana when her mother is sick, dealing with a beggar rat trying to take over her home, and outsmarting a nosy cat. Throughout, Margo grows braver and smarter.

Production and release
The TV series broadcast in Poland from 1976 to 1983. After the series ended, Studio Filmów Rysunkowych released eight episodes as a feature-length compilation film in 1985, first shown in the former Soviet Union. It then appeared in East Germany on video in 1986 and was released in Poland in 1987 due to its good reception. The compilation was later released in other countries, sometimes under different titles.

Distribution
During the 1980s, Margo the Mouse was sold internationally, with many releases going directly to video. In some places the film had cinema showings, while in others it was a TV or home video release. The main character’s name appeared differently in different markets (for example, Jeannette or Tina in some locales, while Margo is used in others). In the United States and Canada, the film was distributed as The Adventures of Little Mouse and the series later aired on PBS. In 2007, the film was added to the Ghibli Museum Library in Japan, distributed by Studio Ghibli with Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, alongside other classic animation titles.
