Mapic
MAPIC is an international retail real estate show held every November in Cannes, France. It began in 1995 and is organized by Reed MIDEM. The event lasts three days and includes conference sessions, an exhibition, and numerous networking opportunities to help develop shopping centers and retail spaces. Participants come from many countries.
Conferences cover topics such as new retail concepts, multichannel strategies, blending leisure and culture with shopping, and investment and expansion in mature and growing markets. A popular networking option is Speed Matching, a 45-minute session where attendees meet 10 potential partners for 3 minutes each to introduce themselves and swap business cards. Other networking moments include the Opening Cocktail and the MAPIC Awards ceremony.
MAPIC Awards, created in 1996, recognize outstanding retail concepts. Initially, awards focused on six retailer categories, and the program added real estate developers as nominees in 2007. Each year a country is named the “Country of Honour” with related sessions and events. In 2013, four countries were highlighted as “Retail Rising Stars”: Brazil, China, India, and Russia.
