Love Is (Vanessa Williams and Brian McKnight song)
Love Is is a 1993 duet by Vanessa Williams and Brian McKnight, written by Tonio K, Michael Caruso, and John Keller. It appeared on the Beverly Hills, 90210 soundtrack and was also used in Melrose Place. The album version runs 4:45 while the radio edit is 4:01.
The song became a big hit, reaching No. 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and spending three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, ending 1993 as the year’s top AC song. There are two radio versions: a common guitar-driven mix with the bridge guitar solo and a fade-out on the second ending chorus, and a piano-driven mix (featuring Philippe Saisse) used in the official video and on Williams’s Greatest Hits collection. The guitar mix also appears on McKnight’s greatest-hits album From There to Here: 1989-2002 without the fade, with a slightly trimmed piano ending.
Love Is was nominated for a Grammy in 1994 for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Jazz saxophonist Nelson Rangell covered the song in 1994 on his album Yes, Then Yes.
