Star Wars Rebels
Star Wars Rebels is an American animated science‑fiction series from Lucasfilm Animation. It’s set 14 years after Revenge of the Sith and a few years before A New Hope, as the Galactic Empire tightens its grip on the galaxy. A small group of rebels aboard a light freighter called the Ghost—the Spectres—begins covert missions against the Empire on the planet Lothal and beyond. The crew includes Kanan Jarrus, a former Jedi; Ezra Bridger, a street-smart orphan; Hera Syndulla, the Ghost’s pilot and leader; Sabine Wren, a gifted artist and fighter; Zeb the Lasat warrior; and the stubborn droid Chopper. They work to weaken Imperial power and recruit others to the burgeoning rebellion, all while the Empire hunts the last of the Jedi.
The show mixes action, adventure, humor, and drama, with moments that are darker as the Empire closes in on its enemies. It introduces new heroes while weaving in connections to the wider Star Wars universe, pulling in characters and elements from The Clone Wars and other stories. Over four seasons and 75 episodes, Rebels grows from the two‑hour Spark of Rebellion special in 2014 into a full series that ends in 2018. It earned strong praise from critics and fans and received several award nominations and wins, including Saturn Awards for Best Animated Series on Television.
Rebels also expanded into other media. The prequel novel A New Dawn tells how Kanan and Hera met. The Thrawn novels bring the Imperial admiral into the canon, and comics like Kanan deepen the story. Characters from Rebels appear in live‑action projects such as Rogue One and Ahsoka, and the voice cast reprises their roles in other Star Wars media and games. The Ghost and its crew also show up in later works like The Rise of Skywalker, and Rebels connections appear in The Bad Batch and Tales of the Jedi.
By showing how the Rebel Alliance began to form, Star Wars Rebels fills in the timeline between the prequels and the original films, delivering exciting adventures across a galaxy at war.
