The UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was a European football competition run by UEFA from 1960 to 1999. It was open to the domestic cup winners of each country (or the losing finalist if the cup winner also won the league). It was called the European Cup Winners' Cup until 1994. The tournament was a knockout format. As the UEFA Champions League expanded in the 1990s, the Cup Winners' Cup lost prestige and popularity. It was abolished after the 1998–99 season, which Lazio won. The top scorer award goes to the player who scored the most goals in the competition. Source: RSSSF
