Leptomys paulus is a small rodent in the Muridae family that lives only in New Guinea. It has a head-and-body length of about 117–132 mm and a tail length of 138–163 mm. Its ears are 18–23 mm, dark brown, with a few dark hairs, and its feet are 31–36 mm. It can weigh up to 52 g. The fur is thick and soft: dark reddish-brown on the back, yellowish on the sides, and grayish-white on the belly. There is a hairless stripe of skin from the middle of the shoulders toward the forehead. It has long whiskers (about 60 mm) and white cheeks with a darker ring around the eyes. The tail is almost hairless with a white tip. Leptomys paulus has been found in tropical low-montane forests of eastern New Guinea, at elevations between 1,240 and 1,540 meters. Its conservation status is Data Deficient.
