Learning for Life (LFL) is an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America that provides school- and work-site-based programs focused on academics, character, leadership, and career readiness. Based in Irving, Texas, it was founded in 1992 and served about 52,180 youth in 2023. LFL is not a traditional scouting program: it does not use the Scout Promise or Scout Law, and it does not require uniforms or insignia. Programs are open to youth and adults regardless of gender, residence, religion, or sexual orientation, with minimum age rules.

Exploring is the worksite-based part of Learning for Life. It helps teens learn about careers through posts and clubs, supervised by adult Post Advisors and sponsors. Explorers, roughly ages 10–20 depending on the post, elect their own leaders and take part in activities in fields such as law enforcement, fire and emergency services, health, engineering, aviation, skilled trades, and technology. Uniforms are not standard, though some posts wear career-specific uniforms. The national office provides scholarships and recognitions, including the William H. Spurgeon III Award and the Young American Award.

Curriculum and recognition: Learning for Life develops its own curriculum for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, aligned with state and national standards and designed to build self-esteem, ethical decision-making, and career skills. Programs often use wall charts, stickers, certificates, and other recognitions for students and schools, with additional awards for teachers, principals, and volunteers.

History and structure: In the 1970s–80s, schools ran In-School Scouting programs. Learning for Life started as a separate nonprofit in 1991 to offer school-based programs with a non-traditional Scouting approach. In 1998, work-based Exploring programs were moved into Learning for Life, while traditional Scouting areas became Venturing and Sea Scouting. Today, almost every BSA council has at least one Exploring post, and about 90 councils run Learning for Life school-based programs.

Organization: Learning for Life operates under the Boy Scouts of America umbrella. The national office provides curriculum and program support through volunteers and staff. Local councils handle day-to-day operations with trained Learning for Life or BSA staff. Some councils have a local LFL “Key 3” (chair, vice chair, and program executive) and subcommittees for finance, marketing, and program. The Learning for Life Foundation helps councils obtain grants, with funds directed to local LFL/Exploring programs.
