Lawrenceton is an unincorporated community in southern Jackson Township, Sainte Genevieve County, Missouri, United States. It is about 14 miles west of Ste. Genevieve. The town was named after Henry Lawrence, a local businessman who ran a flour mill, a farm, and a store that delivered mail. The original name was Punjaub, a name similar to a district in India, though the origin isn’t known. Some people think Punjaub may come from “pond job,” referring to a dam built for a water-powered mill.
