LORAN-C transmitter Searchlight was a U.S. Coast Guard radio navigation station on the West Coast. It served as the Yankee secondary for the West Coast LORAN-C chain (GRI 9940) and the Whiskey secondary for the South Central U.S. chain (GRI 9610). Built in 1976, the site had four 700-foot towers and transmitted 540 kW from about 13.5 miles south of Searchlight, Nevada. Five active duty and two reserve Coast Guard personnel were based there, led by an Officer in Charge who was a Chief Electronics Technician. The station closed on February 8, 2010, due to budget cuts, and like other LORAN-C sites it was considered obsolete with the rise of GPS. The four towers were demolished sometime between January 2014 and January 2015. The location was near Searchlight, Nevada.
