Lüzhu, also known as Liang, was an ancient Chinese courtesan, dancer, and music teacher who died in the year 300. Shi Chong, an official of Emperor Wu of Jin, bought her and kept her as his concubine. She became famous for her beauty and talents, entertaining guests as a dancer and musician. She also wrote music and set poetry to songs. The famous piece Aonao qu is sometimes credited to her, sometimes to Shi Chong. When a rival official, Sung Xiu, demanded to buy her, Shi Chong refused. Shi Chong was arrested and ordered to commit suicide, and Lüzhu also killed herself. She is depicted in Wu Shuang Pu by Jin Guliang.
