Kumasi Girls Senior High School
Kumasi Girls Senior High School (KUGISS) is a public all-girls high school in Abrepo, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. It sits beside the county hospital and operates under the Ministry of Education. The school motto is Semper Fidelis and its religious affiliation is Christianity (Methodist). Founded in 1953 by Caxton Williams, a Sierra Leonean, it began as a private girls’ secondary school. The government took over administration in 1963. KUGISS started at Susanso near Bomso Junction, moved to Old Tafo in the early 1960s, and settled in its present permanent site at Abrepo in 1992.
KUGISS serves girls aged 14 to 18 and offers General Arts, General Science, Business, Home Economics, and Visual Arts. The school has seven houses and the colours blue and white. It is commonly known by its nickname KUGISS and is often ranked as a first-choice school. In November 2023, the school celebrated its 60th anniversary and had about 3,200 students.
KUMASI Girls maintains a link with Kumasi High School, its brother school, through the MMRAHEMMAA alliance. In September 2024, a mechanized water project was launched with support from Young Visionary Leaders, Ghana. The alumni association is AHEMAA.
