Khunzakh (Avar: Хунзахъ) is a rural village and the administrative center of Khunzakhsky District in Dagestan, Russia. It sits in the North Caucasus mountains about 1,600 meters above sea level.

Population: about 4,100 people (2021).

History: From the 5th to the 12th centuries, Khunzakh was known as Humraj and was the capital of Sarir, a Christian state in the Caucasus. In the 13th century it became the capital of the Caucasian Avar Khanate and remained so until the Caucasian War, when the Khanate joined Russia in 1864. During the Russian Empire, it was the administrative capital of Avarsky Okrug.
