Kathryn Janeway
Kathryn Janeway is a fictional Star Trek character and the captain of the Starfleet starship USS Voyager. The TV series Star Trek: Voyager ran from 1995 to 2001, and it follows Janeway as she leads Voyager after the ship is pulled into the Delta Quadrant, far from Earth. She and her crew—a mix of Starfleet officers and former Maquis—work to return home, facing dangerous challenges and making difficult choices along the way.
Janeway is known for being the first female captain to be the central character of a live-action Star Trek series. She helps a diverse crew, guides the fight against the Borg, and uses Borg technology—like a transwarp conduit—to bring Voyager back to the Federation after seven years in the Delta Quadrant. After Voyager returns home, she is promoted to Admiral.
In film and later TV, Janeway appears as an Admiral in Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) and later features in Star Trek: Prodigy (2021–present), where she appears as a holographic and later emergency command hologram guiding theProtostar crew as they search for Chakotay and their missing ship.
Kate Mulgrew has portrayed Janeway in all on-screen appearances. The character has also appeared in books and video games, expanding her story beyond the TV series. Janeway is widely regarded as one of Star Trek’s top captains for her decisive leadership and resilience in adversity.
