K College
K College, also known as South & West Kent College, was a Kent-based college offering further and higher education. It formed in April 2010 when South Kent College merged with West Kent College. The college had campuses in Ashford, Dover, Folkestone, Tonbridge and Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England, and at one point taught more than 25,000 students.
By March 2013 the total was about 15,000 students and more than 1,100 staff. The college faced mounting debt, leading to resignations on the board and a recommendation to sell. Ofsted rated it inadequate in December 2013.
In 2014 the college was split between Hadlow College and East Kent College. West Kent College was re-established, and the Ashford campus became Ashford College. There were up to 127 redundancies for staff not transferring to East Kent College.
East Kent College later expanded the Folkestone and Dover campuses. K College offered higher education with Canterbury Christ Church University, University of Greenwich and University of Kent. The Tonbridge main campus taught many A-level and vocational courses, apprenticeships, and teacher training, including courses on deaf issues and dyslexia, plus TUC courses and a Professional Development Centre. A construction-focused center operated at the Construction Crafts & Engineering Centre in Tunbridge Wells.
The interim principal was Phil Frier and the patron was Lord Mayhew of Twysden. K College operated from April 2010 until it closed on 31 July 2014.
