Julie Is Her Name
Julie Is Her Name is Julie London's first LP, released by Liberty Records in December 1955. It was recorded August 8–9, 1955 at Western Recorders in Hollywood and runs about 30 minutes. The album features guitarist Barney Kessel and bassist Ray Leatherwood, with Bobby Troup producing. The opening track, Cry Me a River, was issued as a single in October 1955 and became London's biggest chart hit. Originally released in mono and later in stereo in 1960, the LP has been reissued on CD—paired with Julie Is Her Name, Volume II (EMI, 1992)—and also with Lonely Girl (Hallmark). Critics praised the album for its passionate, sophisticated presentation and tasteful standards; jazz critic Scott Yanow called it one of London's best, highlighting songs like I Should Care, Say It Isn't So, Easy Street, and Gone with the Wind.
