Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (JASA) is a monthly, peer‑reviewed journal about all areas of acoustics. It is published by the American Institute of Physics for the Acoustical Society of America in the United States. The editor‑in‑chief is James F. Lynch of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

History and scope: JASA began in October 1929 with eight papers. In May 1932, publication moved to the American Institute of Physics. In 1957, the journal switched from publishing every two months to a monthly schedule. In the 1990s, JASA started publishing papers online, and in 1994 past volumes were issued on CD‑ROM. In 1999, the ASA launched Acoustics Research Letters Online (ARLO), which was later renamed JASA Express Letters and included as a section of JASA from 2006 to 2020. JASA Express Letters became an independent journal again in 2021.

Impact: The journal had an impact factor of 2.3 in 2024.

Content: JASA includes research papers, news items, book reviews, references to recent papers, acoustics patent reviews, and standards news.
