John Spink
General Sir John Spink KH (1783 – 14 March 1877) was a British Army officer who rose to become a full general and the colonel of the 2nd (The Queen's Royal) Regiment of Foot. Born in Staithes, Yorkshire, he joined the army in 1806 as an ensign in the 12th Regiment of Foot. He fought in India during the Travancore Rebellion (1808–1809). In 1810 he led an attack on Réunion in the Indian Ocean and later took part in the Invasion of Isle de France, marching on Port Louis in November 1810. He served as colonel of the 2nd Regiment from 28 May 1857 until his death in 1877 and was promoted to full general in 1865. He was awarded the Knight of the Royal Guelphic Order. He died at Norwood Park, London, aged about 93–94.
