2012 Southend-on-Sea Borough Council election
The election took place on 3 May 2012. Seventeen of the 51 council seats were contested, with 26 seats needed for a majority. The election happened on the same day as other local elections.
Before the election, the council was controlled by the Conservative Party. After the election, no single party had overall control, although the Conservatives remained the largest party.
Results by party (out of 17 seats contested):
- Conservative: won 6 seats in the election, total 25 seats on the council after the election; 12,022 votes (32.7%), seat change +3.
- Independent: won 5 seats, total 10 seats; 7,552 votes (20.5%), seat change +1.
- Liberal Democrats: won 3 seats, total 10 seats; 5,109 votes (13.9%), seat change +2.
- Labour: won 3 seats, total 6 seats; 7,100 votes (19.3%), seat change 0.
Overall, the council stayed under no overall control, with the Conservatives as the largest party.
