Joe Dial
Joe Dial (born October 26, 1962, in Marlow, Oklahoma) is a retired American pole vaulter. He won the bronze medal at the 1989 World Indoor Championships in Budapest and his personal best is 5.96 meters, set in June 1987 in Norman, Oklahoma. While at Marlow High School, he was named Track and Field News High School Athlete of the Year in 1981.
After retiring from competition, Dial became a coach. He led the men's and women's track and cross country programs at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa from 1993 to 2022, coaching 50 All-Americans and helping ORU become a strong program in the Mid-Continent Conference. Despite coaching at a rival school, he remains a popular Oklahoma State University alum and was inducted into the OSU Hall of Fame in 2002. He and his wife Shawna, an ORU assistant coach, have three sons. In July 2022, Dial was hired as head coach of Jenks High School's boys' cross country and track and field programs.
