Itki is a community development block (CD block) in the Ranchi Sadar subdivision of Ranchi district, Jharkhand, India. It sits on the Ranchi plateau and covers 96.86 square kilometers. The block’s headquarters is in Itki village, and Itki police station serves the area. It is bordered by Mandar and Ratu blocks to the north, Nagri to the east, Karra block in Khunti district to the south, and Bero to the west. The elevation is about 650 meters above sea level and the landscape is hilly and uneven.

Population and communities
As of the 2011 census, Itki CD block had 50,058 people, all living in rural areas (25,234 males and 24,824 females). There are 7,119 children aged 0–6. Scheduled Tribes make up 24,241 people (48.43%), while Scheduled Castes number 680 (1.36%). The Oraon and Munda are the main tribes, making up 18.2% and 10.3% of the population respectively. Large villages include Itkithakurgaon (12,174 people) and Garhagaon (4,380 people). Literacy was 73.58% for people over 6 years: 81.95% among males and 65.08% among females, with a gender literacy gap of 16.87%.

Language
The official language is Hindi, with Urdu declared an additional official language.

Economy
In 2011, 41.79% of workers were engaged in some work. Among workers, 43.39% were cultivators, 26.91% were agricultural laborers, 3.17% were in household industries, and 26.53% were other workers. Of the block’s total area, 44.14% was cultivable and 9.76% of the cultivable land was irrigated. The district is considered backward and receives special development funds under the Backward Regions Grant Fund.

Infrastructure and living conditions
There are 30 inhabited villages in Itki CD block. In 2011, 13 villages had power supply, 2 had tap water, 30 had well water, and all 30 had some form of drinking water facility. Five villages had post offices and five had sub post offices; three villages had landline telephones, and 18 had mobile coverage. Pucca roads connected 26 villages; bus services were available in 7, autos or modified autos in 8, taxis or vans in 6, and tractors in 11 villages. Three villages had bank branches. Public distribution system facilities were present in 12 villages, and 22 had polling stations.

Education and health
Education facilities in 2011 included pre-primary schools in 6 villages, primary schools in 29, middle schools in 11, secondary schools in 6, and senior secondary schools (inter colleges) in 2 villages; one village had no educational facility. Itki has a railway station on the Ranchi–Tori line.

Health facilities included a primary health centre in 1 village, primary health subcentres in 4 villages, a maternity and child welfare centre in 1 village, family welfare centres in 2, and medicine shops in 21 villages.

Development context
Ranchi district, including Itki, has seen security improvements from past Maoist activity, with incidences significantly reduced in recent years. The district, like much of Jharkhand, has areas that are economically disadvantaged but receives targeted development funding to support growth.
