Interstate 630
Interstate 630 (I-630) is a short east–west highway in Little Rock, Arkansas. It runs about 7.4 miles from I-430 at the west end (near Chenal Parkway and Shackleford Road) to I-30 and US routes 65, 67, and 167 at the east end downtown. I-630 connects West Little Rock with downtown and feeds into I-430, which runs north–south in western Little Rock. It is an auxiliary route of I-30 and is also known as the Wilbur D. Mills Freeway; as of autumn 2019, its official name is the Gold Star Families Memorial Highway.
History in brief: The idea for the road dates to the 1930s and was planned in 1941. Construction began in the 1960s as the East–West Expressway (also called the 8th Street Expressway) and it was not originally an Interstate or state highway. In the 1970s, Representative Wilbur D. Mills helped add it to the Interstate System by adjusting mileage allocations. The route was briefly named Mills, but Arkansas highway officials later changed naming policy; the Mills name was revived in the 2000s, and today the highway carries the name Gold Star Families Memorial Highway. The entire route is in Little Rock, Pulaski County.
