Ikeda clan

Origin
The Ikeda clan is a Japanese family that traces its ancestry to the Minamoto clan, specifically Minamoto no Yorimitsu of the Seiwa Genji line. The first person to use the name Ikeda was Minamoto no Yasumasa, a descendant of Yorimitsu.

Edo period and domains
During the Edo period, parts of the Ikeda clan became powerful daimyo. Their main domains were the Tottori Domain in the Sanin region and the Okayama Domain in western Honshu. Ikeda Takamasa led the Okayama branch and was married to Atsuko Ikeda, the daughter of Emperor Shōwa. The Inryoji Temple was built during the reign of Ikeda Tadakatsu.

Branches
- Settsu-Ikeda family: A cadet line from Settsu (an old province) with a notable crest and many generations listed.
- Mino-Ikeda family: Another cadet line with several famous lords, including Terumasa and Mitsumasa.
