Hunan Restaurant was a Chinese restaurant in downtown Portland, Oregon. The Liu family opened it in Morgan's Alley in 1979, and it closed in 2014. The place was known for hot and spicy dishes and showy presentations. A famous dish was Dragon and the Phoenix, a crab-and-chicken combo served with apple and cucumber flowers. It was also one of the first Portland restaurants to offer General Tso’s chicken. Another specialty was tea-smoked duck, served in tiny pancakes with plum sauce. In 2016, Grant Butler included Hunan in The Oregonian’s list of long-gone Portland restaurants people still miss, noting its flair and distinctive dishes.
