Hugh Saunders (born 25 November 1944 in Guernsey) is a former British speedway rider who competed in the National League. He started with Eastbourne Eagles (1969–1970), then rode for Rayleigh Rockets (1970–1971) and Hackney Hawks (1970–1974) as promoter Len Silver ran several teams. He later joined Rye House Rockets (1975–1979). Saunders helped his teams win several honours: the British League KO Cup in 1971, the London Cup in 1971 and 1973, and the National League KO Cup in 1979. His career ended after he dislocated his ankle at Newcastle’s Brough Park on 17 September 1979. In 1980 he rode in a testimonial with a team of old friends called the “Hughgonuts,” but broke his leg in the first outing and missed the rest of the day.
