Hoodia officinalis is a succulent plant native to Namibia and the Cape Province of South Africa. It has two subspecies: Hoodia officinalis subsp. officinalis and Hoodia officinalis subsp. delaetiana. The subspecies are mainly different in where they grow; subsp. delaetiana is found only in the Klinghardt Mountains and is larger than subsp. officinalis. Hoodia officinalis itself is a relatively small Hoodia, reaching about 20 to 40 centimeters in height.
