Hitchcon was a science fiction convention held at the Southbank Centre in London on 11 October 2009. It marked 30 years since the first Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book was published. The event also launched And Another Thing..., the sixth book in the series by Eoin Colfer, after Douglas Adams’s death in 2001. The convention was organized by Pan Macmillan (publisher of the original books) and Penguin Books (publisher of And Another Thing...). Pan Macmillan released a new edition of the original series on 1 September 2009, 42 days before the anniversary. A new Hitchcon website launched with competitions, games and ringtone downloads, and there was a live Twitter feed from the event in the voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android. Activities included a fan photo call; The Douglas Adams Chat Show hosted by Clive Anderson; signing sessions for the original series and for And Another Thing...; a live radio-style performance of Hitchhiker's; and a reading from And Another Thing....
