Harvey Weisenberg is an American politician from New York. He was born on December 31, 1933, in the Bronx and has lived in Long Beach, New York, most of his life. He finished high school in Long Beach (1952), played basketball at Niagara University, earned a B.S. from New York University in 1958, an M.S. from Hofstra University in 1962, and a professional diploma in administration from LIU Post in 1981. He worked as a Long Beach police officer, then spent more than 20 years in the East Meadow School District as a teacher and administrator. He entered politics as a Democrat, serving on the Long Beach City Council and was its president in 1977 and 1980. On February 14, 1989, he was elected to the New York State Assembly to fill a vacancy, and he served there until 2014, representing the 20th district, which includes Atlantic Beach, Long Beach, Lido Beach, Island Park, Oceanside, East Rockaway, the Five Towns, and parts of Lynbrook and Rockville Centre. He rose to Assistant Speaker Pro Tempore and sponsored Jonathan's Law in 2007. He and his wife Ellen had five children; Ellen died in 2016. He announced in April 2014 that he would retire and not seek another term.
